Gathering: The First Step To Going

The first thing to my mind when Kate Motaung tweeted “gather” at the #fmfparty Thursday evening was this hymn of old… shall we gather at the river, the beautiful, beautiful river.

gather ::

gathering for the church community has always been vital… we’re family… we need each other… we need to be together.
"And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. "
Hebrews 10:25

together ::

being together as the church is powerful… we’re a single force … with a single voice … we need to be unified.
"So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets,
Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone,  in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit."
Ephesians 2:19-22

unity ::

unity of the church, of Christ’s family is crucial … we’re spreading God’s message …  one Savior … we need to be witnesses.
"I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought."
I Corinthians 1:10

witness ::

witnesses for the church change the world … we’re on a mission … one word, many voices … we need to lead the revival.
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."
Matthew 28:19

What a beautiful reflection on the word gather I like how you went from gather to witness, such a cool way to look at one word and then dive deeper.

Beautiful post, Jana. We are a much more powerful witness when we're gathered. I love those old baptism pictures. Makes me homesick almost! Have a great weekend!
