5 Scriptures to Help Renew My Attitude
& FREE Printable Scripture Cards

I love this from Chuck Swindoll:
"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me is more important than facts.  It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do.

It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.  It will make or break a company.. a church ... a home.

The remarkable thing is that we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.  We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.

We cannot change the inevitable.  The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I  am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how i react to it.  And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes."
"Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe"
Philippians 2:14-15

I have to admit it, from time to time, I need an attitude adjustment.

As life happens it can become easy to let circumstances and surroundings impact my mood and perspective. When this happens and the attitude becomes negative, good things start to be viewed through the distorted lens of negativity.

And soon instead of seeing blessings, I can see burdens.

When this attitude shift occurs, negative and complaining words are very close behind

So I have learned, yes the painful way, that what probably has the greatest impact on the tone of my words is my attitude.

Cheerfulness, it would appear, is a matter which depends fully as much on the state of things within, as on the state of things without and around us.

Charlotte Bronte

Because the best way to work on our state within is to get in the Word of God, here are five scriptures we can hide in our hearts to help keep our attitude properly adjusted.

“Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving.”
Colossians 4:2

“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.  And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death - even death on the cross!”
Philippians 2:5-8

“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
Colossians 3:2

“Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.  Put on your new nature, created to be like God - truly righteous and holy.”
Ephesians 4:23-24

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”
Philippians 4:8-9

Lord, we praise you today for you are compassionate and merciful.  We thank you that you have created us in your image and that by faith in you, you have given us a new nature!  Touch our hearts and minds today Lord, take away our old nature, our bad attitudes and destructive thoughts; create in us a new heart, a compassionate and merciful heart just like yours!  Father, renew us to think the best of others, take away our negative thoughts, fill our minds with powerful life changing positive thoughts!  Let our new hearts and minds be reflected in our words and actions toward others today Lord.  Let us speak love to others, let our words be uplifting and encouraging!  Oh Father, we pray that others will see you through our actions and be encouraged, and be inspired to know you!  Lord, we pray that nothing we say or do lead others away from you, rather that our actions in every way bring glory to your precious name!  Lord, thank you for empowering us to achieve these things today! Praise your holy name!  Amen
